Concurrent Sentences
A downloadable game
Mine, Upgrade, Automate, and Earn enough to hopefully buy your freedom.
Concurrent Sentences is a short first-person incremental (I hope) game made for the Incremental Game Jam, with the theme Parallel Universes.
You are stuck working in a prison camp that exists across four different versions of the same world. Your job is to mine resources, deposit them into the collection pits, improve the machinery, unlock the other universes, and eventually earn enough to buy your freedom.
Features
- Mine resources by hand, then automate the process as you progress.
- Physically carry, throw, and launch resources into collection pits.
- Unlock four parallel universes, each with its own resources and upgrades.
- Purchase dozens of upgrades to improve production, automation, movement, and more.
- Build up your Base rig until it benefits from every unlocked universe.
- Earn 16 achievements on your way to purchasing your freedom.
- Designed to be completed in roughly 20–30 minutes (questionable balance notwithstanding).
- Includes optional developer tools if you'd rather experiment and/or get it over with, hah.
A few honest notes
I am still very new to game development. I am also pretty new to incremental games, honestly, so I am not completely sure how firmly this belongs in the genre.
There is passive production, a bunch of upgrades, numbers going up, and some automation. But it is also a first-person physics game where you spend a lot of time throwing metal into holes. I figured that was close enough to explore the idea.
The balance is pretty rough, the gameplay is fairly simple, and the environments are mostly basic geometry using materials from marketplace assets. I spent a lot of time building tangentially-related systems instead of polishing art, audio, and balance -- that probably wasn't the right direction to create the best jam game possible, but it was the part I was most excited for.
Even so, I learned a lot and had fun. I ended up with something that has a beginning, progression system, and ending. I'm generally pretty happy with how it turned out.
I know downloading a packaged Unreal Engine game is a tougher ask than clicking into a browser game, especially during a jam. Unfortunately, Unreal is what I am learning, so here we are. I really appreciate anyone willing to download it and give it a shot.
Feedback is very welcome, thank you!
Bug reports, criticism, balance complaints, and general thoughts are all welcome. This was a learning project more than anything else, so I appreciate any guidance too.
Thanks for checking it out!

Install instructions
- Download the Windows ZIP file above.
- Extract the entire ZIP to a folder.
- Open the extracted folder and run ConcurrentSentences.exe.
Important: Do not run the game from inside the ZIP file. Extract everything first. Windows may display a warning because this is an unsigned program, but I promise I'm just a newbie UE5 dev (for whatever a random stranger's promise is worth).
